Volunteer Roles

The need for volunteers with knowledge and expertise in the areas of our projects is very high as a result of our lack of funds and limited staff. Volunteers can get involved in a wide variety of projects depending on their interest and experience. If you would like to experience the African and Tanzanian culture first hand while assisting individuals and communities to better their lives, we invite you to Karagwe. Please look over all of the ways you can get involved in KADERES projects to find your area of interest and contact us!

MEDICAL
With the assistance of our donors, KADERES has constructed four dispensaries and health clinics/centers. However, sufficient staffing of doctors and nurses is a continuous struggle, affecting the patients every day. If you are or were a doctor and/or nurse, either general or specialty, there is a great need for your help in the dispensaries and clinics of Karagwe. Currently, we have two health centers open for volunteer placement that are in great need of surgical doctors, pharmacists and general physicians.

MICROFINANCE
This department is one of the largest of KADERES' project areas. Through SACCOS, our hope is to empower the community to better their lives through small business investments and personal savings. We are strongly devoted to uplifting the impoverished farmers and peasants in our district and assisting them in recieving fair prices for their agriculture. For those who have experience in microfinance product and system development, networking and banking, we would benefit greatly from your assistance. After learning about our microfinance systems and visiting the project sites, volunteers are encouraged to bring new ideas, strategies and advice to our attention in order to better the design and function of the programs.

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
As previously mentioned, KADERES is short staffed and is not able to hire those with the highest of technical skills and knowledge because of low salary rates, but we are in great need of that assistance. We must keep record of data from each of the SACCOS we are supporting but as of now, it is all being done by hand in nearly 100 large binders because of a lack of skills and resources in our office. This same situation occurs within each of the individual SACCOS but in the future we would like to upgrade their systems with computers and proper accounting software. Therefore, an individual with these skills would be of great value and assistance to KADERES and the community we are serving. Although Tanzania is still a developing country, the goals KADERES is trying to acheive in microfinance require advanced skills and technology, which we do not currently have, in order produce the highest success.

PROJECT ASSESSMENT AND DATA COLLECTOR
Another disadvantage of being short staffed is the inability to be consistently monitoring the projects we have implemented, collect current data for each and design up to date reports on each. However, frequent monitoring is necessary in order to discover and attack weaknesses within the program and/or obstacles hindering their progress. Karagwe is a very large district with many isolated villages spread far apart from each other. This makes transportation from one site to the next time consuming. An individual with data collecting and assessment skills and interested in seeing the beautiful land of Karagwe

WOMEN AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
In an effort to reach out to the women and youth of Karagwe, KADERES has recently begun creating programs designed specifically to support their needs. About 85% of the women in Karagwe have organized themselves in small social groups within their villages in order to create a strong network of people they can rely on during difficult financial times. The groups meet weekly to perform and develop income generating projects that are within their reach so they can better support themselves and their families. For those groups, one really can't give enough support and guidance; they would greatly benefit from a caring individuals time. A person who can provide new ideas, strategies and approaches for income generating projects and sustainability would be a great help. This type of volunteer experience of spending one-on-one time with at-risk women and children would be that of a lifetime and one never forgotten.
